The Prodigal Returns: I Rely on Mountain Foraging to Hold My Family Together
In his previous life, Lu Yuan's gambling addiction destroyed his entire family, leaving them buried in debt. Now he has returned to the freezing winter of the 1980s. His sickly wife and daughter are being forced to break off their marriage and remarry. Lu Yuan makes a three-day promise and ventures alone into the vast snowy wilderness with nothing but a woodcutter's knife. Risking his life, he scales sheer cliffs and digs up a wild ginseng root that is sixty years old, offering everything he owns to win back his wife and daughter. He takes in a loyal but simple-minded brother, traps and kills a three-hundred-jin red-haired wild boar king, and helps his old hunter father overcome thirty years of inner torment. As winter gives way to spring, he gathers precious spring delicacies, buys farming tools, and opens up wasteland. The once-reckless prodigal finally settles down to make an honest living in the mountains, turning his broken family's life into something warm and prosperous amid the snowy mountains and dark forests.
