I offered a guaranteed price of 3 yuan per catty for scallions in Woniu Village, making concessions in good faith, but was misunderstood by the villagers. College student Zhao Yu led the crowd in smashing the cold storage and seizing equipment, blindly believing a neighboring boss could offer 8 yuan and stubbornly turning their backs on our agreement. However, after defecting to the other party, the villagers encountered short weighting, high prices failing to sell, massive rotting of the scallions, and heavy losses. Coming back to me with lowered heads to beg me to return, I turned them away utterly heartbroken, turning instead to cooperate with the neighboring Qingliu Village and offering a guaranteed price of 5 yuan. Separated by a single river, those who kept their word lived stably and profited, while those who broke their trust could only reap what they sowed.
