The scholar Chen Xun has long carried a battered wooden sword on his back, alternating between madness and lucidity every three years as he wanders the world. When mad, others dismiss his words as the ravings of a lunatic; when lucid, he reveals extraordinary swordsmanship. Lodging in Xiahe Town, he receives the care of Old Li's family while continuing to unravel the mystery of his own fate through the passage of time. He champions justice along the way, upholds the principles in his heart, and cultivates himself while seeking the Dao amid the shifting tides of worldly affairs. Through the recurring cycle of madness and clarity, he forges his own path of the sword.
