The Silver Fox Gives Him Life-Saving Grain, But He Wants a Whole Cellar
In a famine year, Lao He's son nearly gets his hand broken over three grains of millet. Driven to desperation, a silver fox guides him to life-saving grain, helping the family survive the long, bitter winter. But as the grain vats gradually fill, Lao He's greed grows larger. He conceals accounts, mixes in chaff, accepts silver from grain merchants, and even leads men to dig up an old cellar in the mountain fold overnight, delusional about claiming the entire cellar of grain as his own. The moment an iron crowbar pries open the stone slab, the golden millet shockingly transforms into common dirt right before everyone's eyes! The grain is gone, the debts have arrived, and the fellow villagers are dragged into desperation by him. Having lost his family property, Lao He can only start over from a single seed. What on earth did the silver fox give people—a mouthful of life-saving grain, or a rule harder to keep than grain?
