Xie Linchuan, the shopkeeper of a timber store, passes through a mountain path and discovers an old eave leaking rain, leaving travelers huddled beneath rock walls for shelter. He wants to pay someone to fix it, but is refused by the veteran carpenter Gu Huai, leaving him no choice but to learn from scratch—measuring, planing, and drilling timber. Through loose beams, pouring rain, and travelers taking shelter, he comes to realize that true help is not deciding for others, but humbling oneself to learn and building a sturdy roof together with everyone who needs it. When the eaves bell rings once more, an even greater trial begins.
