The Spendthrift Madam Takes Half of Hu City
Gu Yan, the gambling king of Hu City, sets a trap to seize the Shen family's eight casinos and forces the family to continue gambling against him with their dockside businesses as stakes. He even singles out Shen Jiu'er, the supposedly useless Fifth Madam who has never won a hand, to mock her. As everyone desperately tries to protect her and get her away from the table, she takes a seat of her own accord. With her astonishing memory for cards, ability to calculate odds, and gambling skills, she breaks through one seemingly hopeless game after another, wins back the casinos, exposes Gu Yan's cheating, and even wins half of the Gu family's holdings in Hu City. Yet the flourishing businesses conceal enormous debts. Gu Yan flees with the goods, forcing Shen Jiu'er to join forces with the Shen family once again to recover the stolen assets and settle the accounts. In the end, she transforms the casinos into teahouses, theaters, and restaurants, breathing new life into the former gambling city.
