Raised by the entire village after his parents separated in childhood, Qi Lianshan made it into Tsinghua and Peking University thanks to grain and funds pooled by his neighbors. After graduating, he landed a lucrative job at a major enterprise with an annual salary of two million. Remembering his childhood pledge of gratitude, he resolutely gave up the high pay and returned to his hometown with a state-supported agrivoltaic project. Upon returning, the villagers mistook him for a failure coming back to swindle money. Instead of making empty promises, he funded and built a photovoltaic prototype on barren land at his own expense, successfully generating electricity, turning a profit, and distributing dividends to participating villagers. Seeing real returns, the villagers turned from skeptical to eager partners. The barren rocky mountain was completely lifted out of poverty, and Qi Lianshan fulfilled his youthful vow.
