Qijin, the son of Carpenter Yang, is abducted and eaten by the sow dragon of Black Dragon Pool. Carpenter Yang carves a wooden dragon and paints its eyes to bring it to life. The wooden dragon fights the sow dragon, but its wooden body catches fire and is destroyed. Blacksmith Zhao proposes making iron scales and armor to protect it, and the whole village melts down iron pots and hoes to forge armor for a new wooden dragon. Disguised as a Taoist priest, the sow dragon sneaks in to destroy it, but Dabao sees through the disguise. Once its eyes are painted, the armored wooden dragon soars into the sky and, together with a host of dragons, attacks the sow dragon. They finally kill it at the bottom of the pool. The wooden dragon becomes a guardian dragon’s shadow in the water, and the villagers regain their peace.
