In the bitter winter of the 547th year of Yongan, the refugee Wen Chaosheng drifted into Kuhai County. Amid wind and snow, he rescued A Shui, an orphan of Fengcheng carrying a sea of blood vengeance, and the two depended on each other to survive. The former magistrate Liu Jin mysteriously hanged himself, concealing secrets of the Langan Pavilion in the royal city; new magistrate Chun Qiong, middleman Lu Chuan, assassin organization Wang, and the White Dragon Guard contended among various factions. Wen Chaosheng comprehended sword intent through chopping wood, while Mr. and Mrs. Lv Zhiming secretly watched over them. The two tracked down the truth behind the fake family letters from A Shui's parents and the great fire of Fengcheng, maneuvering between power struggles and martial arts death traps to carve out a way to live as human beings in a chaotic, snowy world.
