However, her mother's question—"Did you ask how long it takes to weave?"—instantly undermines that commitment. In truth, the client only needs a small sample and the documented creation process. Mother and daughter start afresh from an old test piece, inspecting dye colors, simplifying motifs, taking turns at the loom, undoing two mistaken wefts, and finally finishing the fabric off the loom. Before the exhibition, Xu He must decide whether to put the flawed test piece on display. What visitors remember is not her title, but the two rounds of meticulous rework. Leaving the sample for the exhibition, she returns empty-handed to the wooden loom, finally able to set the rhythm of her life to the pace of her craft.
