Ling Xiyue, the glamorous and willful eldest young lady of the Ling family, fears only Ling Jiuhan, the head of the household. To secure an alliance between the two families, Ling Jiuhan betrothed her to Nan Ci, the eldest son of the Nan family. Nan Ci fell in love with her at first sight and pursued her tirelessly for a year before she agreed, promising his total devotion. He kept his playboy ways in check for three years, but with the wedding fast approaching, his reckless behavior shattered that trust. Upon learning of this, Ling Jiuhan decisively moved to call off the engagement and took Ling Xiyue to the Nan family estate. However, Nan Siyu, the cold and distinguished true power behind the Nan family, calmly rejected the cancellation. Looking straight at Ling Xiyue, he declared: "This marriage cannot be canceled. How about I marry you instead?"
