At the beginning, he is mistaken for an assassin. Thinking quickly, he falsely claims to be an immortal envoy sent by Heaven and uses artificial rainmaking to expose the fraudulent imperial preceptor who pretends to possess supernatural powers. He intimidates the skeptical officials of the imperial court, both civil and military, and is exceptionally appointed Grand Imperial Preceptor by Empress Feng Jiuyao. From then on, Yun Ze uses his modern knowledge to issue early warnings and avert a devastating flood, employs scientific methods to expose superstitious frauds, and outsmarts the power-hungry Chancellor and the rebellious Prince Jing.
