Xiao Ye, the son of a poor temple keeper, has no aptitude for cultivation, yet he is determined to follow the righteous path to immortality by accumulating merit with a silent scale of merit that can weigh debts of cause and effect. His father, Xiao Shan, once entered the underworld and took the burden upon himself on his behalf. Along the way, Xiao Ye forms bonds of kindness, fights injustice, and delivers wronged souls from their suffering. From saving his father to proving his Dao, he eventually sets the heavenly accounts straight on behalf of the mortal world. With a Daoist heart free of inner turmoil and steadfast in righteousness, he settles the debts owed by the Three Realms, one by one, returning them to the mortal world. In the end, he becomes the one who restores order, ensuring that good and evil each receive their due. Even an ordinary person can perform great deeds of kindness and uphold the Heavenly Dao. Facing the light, he ensures that merit and fault belong to the people.

Xiao Ye, figlio di un povero custode di un tempio, non possiede alcuna predisposizione naturale alla coltivazione, ma è determinato a percorrere la retta via verso l'immortalità accumulando meriti grazie a una bilancia silenziosa della virtù, capace di pesare i debiti di causa ed effetto. Suo padre, Xiao Shan, un tempo entrò negli inferi per assumersi quel fardello al suo posto. Durante il suo cammino, Xiao Ye stringe legami di bontà, combatte le ingiustizie e libera le anime tormentate. Dal salvare suo padre fino al raggiungimento dell'illuminazione del Dao, arriva infine a rimettere in ordine anche i conti del cielo in nome del mondo mortale. Con un cuore taoista che non si logora nei conflitti interiori e rimane saldo nella rettitudine, calcola uno a uno i debiti dei Tre Regni e li restituisce al mondo umano. Alla fine diventa colui che ristabilisce l'ordine, affinché il bene e il male tornino ciascuno al proprio posto. Anche una persona comune può compiere grandi atti di bontà e affermare il Dao Celeste. Procedendo verso la luce, restituisce al popolo il diritto di decidere meriti e colpe.
