The Whole Village Chases High Prices, Tomatoes Rot Overnight
Chen Qingshan returns to the village to purchase tomatoes at the guaranteed price of two yuan per jin, as agreed in the contract signed before the Lunar New Year, but the villagers accuse him of deliberately offering a low price. Liu Erkui brings a buyer offering a higher price of 3.8 yuan per jin, tempting everyone. However, once the tomatoes are gathered, problems arise with cold-chain transportation, contracts, and payment, and the tomatoes are damaged overnight. Faced with the losses, Chen Qingshan does not gloat. Instead, he helps the villagers sort the tomatoes by grade, salvage the produce, and establish proper procedures, teaching Qinghe Village that protecting a harvest takes more than promises of high prices. It requires contracts, integrity, and rules.
