A Beggar Plots to Rule the Realm

Barely having swallowed a bowl of thin porridge, he is forced to sign a confession pledging his involvement in a silver robbery, while the younger brother he rescued becomes a hostage. To find a way to survive, he pursues missing relief silver and takes on corrupt officials. He even turns mountains of salty stones into silver, which he then trades for grain and medicine for the frontier. But just as his salt factory opens, an assassination attempt follows. Escaping one deadly trap, he falls straight into a sinister inn hiding dangerous people. With the allied armies of five nations approaching, the imperial court and the martial world each have their own schemes, and his name appears on the blades of more and more enemies. A nobody who only wanted enough to eat is thrust onto the gambling table of national destiny. This time, he will lead the companions who have followed him along the way and fight to secure a chance of survival for those who have never even been allowed a seat at the table.
