A String of Conscience at the Night Market Stall
Lao Ma has guarded his night market stall for fifteen years, skewering fresh meat on the spot for three yuan a skewer. A Li uses red triangle frozen meat to sell them for one yuan each, stealing away his customers. Lao Ma reports him, his stall is moved, and his wife Xiulan is caught in a dilemma. After workers hold a dinner party and seek medical treatment, the investigation uncovers the shady underbelly of the red triangle frozen meat. A Li begs his older sister to take the blame, tearing apart family affection and principle. Lao Ma stubbornly guards his stall alone to insist on publishing his source of ingredients, and Xiulan finally hands over the key to reveal the truth. Lao Ma does not fall; he reopens his stall, defending his conscience with three hundred skewers. Three hundred skewers, not a single one missing, nor a single one too many.
