A Harpoon Ventures into the Deep Sea
Lin Haisheng's parents died when he was young, leaving him only an old sampan and an ancestral harpoon. His swimming skills far surpass those of anyone else in the village, yet others see him as a desperately poor bachelor. Through the matchmaking efforts of the village secretary, Seventh Uncle Gong, Lin Haisheng meets Chen A Zhu, a widow whose in-laws branded her a husband-killer and drove her out of their home. She is raising her six-year-old younger sister-in-law, Xiao Yu, all by herself. Lin Haisheng refuses to believe the rumors that she brings bad luck to her husband and resolves to shoulder the responsibility of supporting this family, living together with A Zhu and Xiao Yu through thick and thin.
