Hu Guifen is notorious in the village for being stingy. For more than ten years, whenever a villager held a celebration, she would bring a cheap, practically worthless gift as her contribution, yet never miss the chance to enjoy the feast. On her son's wedding day, she expects to collect a fortune in wedding gifts. But to her surprise, villagers from the entire community arrive together, bringing all sorts of bizarre wedding presents: eggs, chives, corn, toads, and more. Every gift perfectly matches the miserly standards of the presents she gave them in the past. The wedding turns into a lively occasion for returning old favors, leaving Hu Guifen utterly humiliated. Amid the uproar, however, the bride wins the villagers' approval through her kindness, and this unusual wedding reveals the true meaning of human relationships and reciprocity.

Hu Guifen è famosa nel villaggio per la sua estrema avarizia. Da oltre dieci anni, ogni volta che un abitante organizza una festa, lei porta sempre un regalo di scarso valore, ma non si lascia mai sfuggire l'occasione di partecipare al banchetto. Il giorno del matrimonio di suo figlio, spera di raccogliere una bella somma di denaro dai regali degli invitati. Non immagina però che tutti gli abitanti del villaggio si presenteranno insieme, portando regali di nozze davvero bizzarri: uova, erba cipollina, mais, rospi e molto altro. Ogni regalo riproduce fedelmente il livello di avarizia dei doni che lei aveva fatto agli altri in passato. Il matrimonio si trasforma così in una vivace occasione per restituire i vecchi regali, lasciando Hu Guifen completamente umiliata. In mezzo a tutto quel trambusto, però, la sposa conquista l'approvazione dell'intero villaggio grazie alla sua gentilezza.
