Cui Tieshan, the foreman of a steel-rebar crew, and his brothers work hard to make a living at a construction site. But after being humiliated over a bowl of extra rice, he breaks with the unscrupulous fast-food owner Ma Changgui. He leads thirty workers to Xiaoman Canteen, a struggling restaurant on the verge of closing, and teaches its owner, Xu Xiaoman, the principles of transparent pricing and fair payment. As business begins to thrive, Ma Changgui resorts to price-cutting, spreading rumors, and cutting off the water and electricity. During a freezing cold snap, he even sabotages the generator, leaving four hundred workers at risk of having no food. Cui Tieshan leads everyone in building a makeshift stove with coal, vegetables, water, and red bricks, protecting their hot meals and the dignity of working people. Eventually, the truth comes to light, Xiaoman Canteen becomes a trusted place to eat, and Xu Xiaoman grows into a responsible business owner who stands by the rules.
