A Pillow of Wind and Sand, Half a Cup of Jujube Sweetness
To save her critically ill father, Lin Wanqiu marries far away to the northwest Gobi Desert. Upon arriving at the farm, she suffers harassment from her mother-in-law and is repeatedly framed by Li Dongmei, the branch secretary's daughter. Her husband, Lu Changfeng, chooses to split the household and leave with nothing to protect her. Everyone waits to see her fail, but Lin Wanqiu stubbornly takes root in the Gobi. Using her craft, she turns desert jujubes into candied fruit, improves the saline-alkali soil, and leads the village women to entrepreneurship and prosperity. When Lu Changfeng returns from his mission to see brick tile houses lined up and workshops bustling, his wife has long brewed the bitter days of the Gobi into sweetness.
