Chen's Braised Beef Noodles at the corner of the old street has been open for fifteen years. Relying on genuine ingredients and a pot of broth simmered to perfection, it has become the familiar taste of the neighborhood. Landlord Ma Dewang, convinced that the business relies entirely on his golden location, demands a rent hike and a revenue cut, forcing Chen Jianshan and his family away. Chen Jianshan takes his wife Lin Xiumei and apprentice Zhao Xiaoman to reopen in a small alley next to the vegetable market five kilometers away.
