Yun Zhao, a skilled artisan specializing in traditional filigree and metal inlay, works at her aunt Hu Chunmei's Cuiyu Xuan jewelry shop. Despite her exceptional craftsmanship, she is cheated out of her wages and betrayed over a promised profit-sharing agreement. Refusing to endure further exploitation, she walks away and sets up a small stall called Zhaohua Gold Craft in an old alley's motorcycle repair shed. From restoring a damaged antique phoenix crown and earning a reputation to securing custom orders from a theater troupe, Yun Zhao establishes herself through her mastery of traditional techniques. Facing schemes and betrayal from her aunt's family, financial pressure and technical restrictions imposed by Western jewelry giant Kaman, and malicious framing, Yun Zhao remains committed to preserving traditional intangible cultural heritage. Using recycled gold from old folk jewelry, she draws delicate gold wires and employs an ingenious cold-riveting self-locking technique to shatter Western prejudices against Eastern craftsmanship.

Malgré son savoir-faire exceptionnel, elle se voit injustement privée d'une partie de sa rémunération et trahie au sujet de l'accord de partage des bénéfices. Refusant de subir davantage cette exploitation, elle quitte résolument la boutique et installe un petit stand appelé Zhaohua Gold Craft dans un atelier de réparation automobile d'une vieille ruelle. Confrontée aux manigances et aux trahisons de la famille de sa tante, à la pression financière et au blocage technologique imposés par Kaman, un géant occidental de la joaillerie, ainsi qu'à des accusations malveillantes, Yun Zhao reste déterminée à préserver les techniques traditionnelles du patrimoine culturel immatériel. Elle fait fondre de vieux bijoux en or provenant de particuliers pour en tirer de fins fils métalliques et utilise une ingénieuse technique de rivetage à froid autobloquant afin de briser les préjugés occidentaux envers l'artisanat oriental.
