A Basket of Shepherd's Purse, Half a Lifetime of Longing
Zhang Guifen has worked as a housekeeper for the Gu family for three years. One day, she happens to gather some wild shepherd's purse growing in the courtyard and makes dumplings with it. After Gu Yan takes a bite, he breaks down emotionally. The familiar taste awakens ten years of buried guilt and longing for his late mother. His wife, Wen Lan, who insists on a scientific and meticulously organized lifestyle, strongly rejects anything she considers 'non-standard,' including shepherd's purse. She tears apart the dumplings and dismisses their son Xiao Jie's attempts to express his feelings. As the family struggles with conflicting attitudes toward life and unresolved wounds from the past, the dumplings and Xiao Jie's paintings become a bridge toward emotional healing. The couple and their child gradually try to reconcile. In the end, Zhang Guifen chooses to leave with dignity, giving the family space to heal on their own.
