The mission was just one line: save a twenty-jin fat orange cat. Only when I pushed open the door of that rental apartment did I realize that the entire place depended on this cat to keep even a little warmth of life alive. I brought both the cat and the silent figure in the corner home with me. The cat needed to lose weight and get treated, while the person needed food and a chance to grow. When money ran short, I rode my bike delivering takeout and searched the entire city for lost cats and dogs, saving up one job at a time. Later, I set up a cooking pot and opened a small cat-food restaurant. With a whole house full of cats and dogs and one new family member, I made sure everyone grew round and plump. The fat orange cat slimmed down and could run again. One day, he lifted his head and softly called me 'Auntie.' It turned out that saving a cat meant saving an entire family.

La missione consisteva in una sola riga: salvare un gatto arancione grassottello di venti jin. Solo dopo aver aperto la porta di quella stanza in affitto mi resi conto che l'intera casa dipendeva da quel gatto per conservare un minimo di vitalità. Portai a casa sia il gatto sia la figura silenziosa che si trovava in un angolo. Il gatto doveva dimagrire e curarsi, mentre la persona aveva bisogno di mangiare e crescere. Quando i soldi non bastavano, andavo in bicicletta a consegnare cibo e giravo per tutta la città alla ricerca di gatti e cani smarriti, mettendo da parte denaro un incarico alla volta. In seguito, misi sul fuoco una pentola e aprii un piccolo ristorante di cibo per gatti. In una casa piena di gatti e cani, insieme a un nuovo membro della famiglia, mi presi cura di tutti fino a farli diventare belli paffuti. Il gatto arancione dimagrì e tornò a correre. Quel giorno alzò la testa e mi chiamò piano «zia». A quanto pare, salvare un gatto significava salvare un'intera famiglia.
