The mission was just one line: save a twenty-jin fat orange cat. Only when I pushed open the door of that rental apartment did I realize that the entire place depended on this cat to keep even a little warmth of life alive. I brought both the cat and the silent figure in the corner home with me. The cat needed to lose weight and get treated, while the person needed food and a chance to grow. When money ran short, I rode my bike delivering takeout and searched the entire city for lost cats and dogs, saving up one job at a time. Later, I set up a cooking pot and opened a small cat-food restaurant. With a whole house full of cats and dogs and one new family member, I made sure everyone grew round and plump. The fat orange cat slimmed down and could run again. One day, he lifted his head and softly called me 'Auntie.' It turned out that saving a cat meant saving an entire family.

No fue hasta que abrí la puerta de aquel piso de alquiler cuando comprendí que toda la habitación dependía de ese gato para conservar un mínimo de vitalidad. Me llevé a casa tanto al gato como a la figura silenciosa que estaba en un rincón. El gato necesitaba adelgazar y recibir tratamiento, mientras que la persona necesitaba comer y crecer. Cuando faltaba el dinero, montaba en bicicleta para repartir comida y recorría toda la ciudad buscando gatos y perros perdidos, ahorrando poco a poco con cada encargo. Más tarde, preparé una olla y abrí un pequeño restaurante de comida para gatos. En una casa llena de gatos y perros, junto con un nuevo miembro de la familia, conseguí que todos estuvieran bien alimentados y rechonchos. El gato naranja adelgazó y volvió a poder correr. Aquel día levantó la cabeza y me llamó suavemente «tía». Resulta que salvar a un gato era salvar a toda una familia.
