Song Yanchu encounters an unexpected misfortune at Yuqing Taoist Temple, where her personal maid Chunzhi is punished to death by her parents. To preserve the family's reputation, her family twice forces her to end her own life. Upon discovering the identity of the perpetrator, her family's attitude completely reverses; but once the perpetrator's family is convicted, her parents pressure her once again. Determined to fight back and survive, Song Yanchu befriends Shen Rou, the widowed sister-in-law of the Changning Count's estate, reaches a cooperation with her, and smoothly marries into the Count's estate. Seeing through Shen Rou's schemes, she steadily manages all affairs within the household and takes supreme command of the family.
