Mika Jones, a brilliant 25-year-old marine biologist, was paralyzed by a childhood trauma she no longer remembers. She is preparing to marry Victor, a scientist whose life's work is hunting down Ilar, the dangerous Prince of the Ocean. After an attack by Victor leaves Marella, Ilar's mermaid fiancée, brain-dead, Mika agrees to transfer her consciousness into Marella's body and infiltrate the underwater kingdom to prevent a war. But the closer she gets to Ilar, the more the mysterious Heart of the Ocean reacts... and the harder it becomes to separate her mission from her desire. Fragments of a forgotten childhood reveal that she has met Ilar before, and that their bond could save the ocean... or destroy it. Meanwhile, Victor and his mistress Hanna have their own plans for Mika, Marella's body, and the Heart.
