Xu Shengxia, the daughter of the Xu family, was accepted into the top university in America. To gather tuition, travel, and living expenses for her, her parents were schemed out of their house by village chief Chang Tianrui. The one million yuan Shengxia sent home every year was also swallowed up by the Chang family to support their younger son, Chang Haining, who was also in America. The Chang father and son controlled the correspondence between Shengxia and her family. Under the false impression that she had been out of touch for ten years, Xu's mother cried until she went mute and blind. Her parents were forced to beg for a living in Chang Village, and her younger sister was bullied to the point of mental breakdown and leg disability! Ten years later, Xu Shengxia returned from America, successful in her career.
