Three years ago, at her neighbors' request, Lin Cheng paid out of pocket to install a central air conditioning system for the old building, shielding all residents from the scorching summer heat. Over these three years, instead of paying her back for the installation and electricity, the neighbors confronted her over a 20-yuan maintenance fee, reported her for "illegal power usage," and badgered her mother into the hospital. Lin Cheng decisively chose to dismantle the central air conditioning and stop supplying cool air. The neighbors have no idea that they have destroyed their cool, carefree summer with their own hands.
