In the Sasanian Empire, carpet weaver Liraz is pressed by tax collectors, but with her marmot Pebble biting ankles, the two flee. From scratches left on her father's relics, she uncovers that his disappearance is linked to the powerful minister Narseh secretly raising a private army. She joins forces with Bahram and Zorvan to seek revenge. Pebble scouts ahead and steals gold dust, accidentally leaving paw prints that become their mark of victory. Through steganographic weaving, she knits fake accounts, tax receipts, and treasonous proof into a carpet, exposing the truth at the Nowruz sacred fire ceremony. The treacherous minister falls and his remnants flee east; Pebble accompanies her finding water, alerting danger, and scenting unfamiliar sigils. From slums to the imperial frontier, from avenging her father to guarding the looms for all—the stitches never stop, the shuttle never rests.
