A torrential rain causes a drill bit to break and construction to halt. To cut costs and take credit, foreman Jiang Dazhuang forces inexperienced Lu Ming down a thirty-meter deep borehole to retrieve the drill bit. Lu Ming notices cracks along the shaft walls and repeatedly urges a shutdown, but Jiang Dazhuang insists on forging ahead. This triggers a catastrophic shaft collapse and topples the pile driver, resulting in a 56 million loss. To dodge blame, Jiang Dazhuang conspires with client representative Xu Xiangdong to frame Lu Ming. Lu Ming presents saved surveillance footage and exposes the truth at a press conference. Jiang Dazhuang is sentenced to prison, while Xu Xiangdong pays 970,000 in damages. Lu Ming starts a business with his fellow workers and rises to become a real estate tycoon years later, while Jiang Dazhuang wanders the streets in disgrace after his release, consumed by regret.
