Her mother has been missing for three days. Five-and-a-half-year-old Xiaoman, holding the leash of the old dog Ashan, knocks on the door of the wealthy Lin family. All she wants is to ask her uncles for help finding her mother, who had promised to return home. What no one knows is that Xiaoman can understand animal speech, and a faint scent picked up by Ashan unravels hidden secrets behind the shelter. Confronted by her arrival, the stern eldest uncle, silent second uncle, easygoing third uncle, and stubborn grandfather are forced to face family grievances left unresolved for years. When respectable goodwill conceals lies and faint cries for help go unheard, can Xiaoman and Ashan follow the clues to find her mother? A reunion and a journey to find her mother finally bring a home to lonely souls and forgotten lives.
