Noble Consort Yue, originally the Emperor's wet nurse, feared growing old and losing the Emperor's favor, so she traveled to Qingqiu in search of youth-preserving magic, only to mistake the weasel spirit Huang Wanwan for a fox spirit. Yue Zhen'er extracted her demon core to retain eternal youth, unaware that consuming a weasel's core brings foul odors and bodily fur. Wanwan's adoptive younger sister, the fox spirit Hu Qimei, enters the palace as a maid to seek vengeance. Pretending to help Consort Yue, she lures her into breaking spiritual precepts, triggering the demon core's backlash to reveal weasel traits and driving a wedge between her and the Emperor. Moving step by step, Qimei forces Consort Yue to fully transform into a monster, reclaims the core, and avenges her sister.
