Shen Shuyao scored 680 on the National College Entrance Examination, but her best friend, Su Xi, secretly altered her university application, sending her into the ancient metal enamelware program, a major with only one student nationwide. Her advisor disappeared, and she had no classmates. Yet she practiced working with copper wire for ten hours every day, without missing a single day for 1,300 days. In the old campus, even the security guard, cafeteria auntie, and library administrator turned out to be renowned masters living in seclusion. Four years later, she became the sole successor of a discipline that had been without a successor for fourteen years. When Su Xi returned as a client representative with a wrongly handled case, Shen Shuyao sat across from her and rejected it page by page, throwing her old words right back at her: "A niche major has little competition. It's perfect for you."
