Shen Yuan and Fu Chi have been married for eight years without children. When she finally gets pregnant, she wants to surprise Fu Chi, only to come home and find him in bed with her assistant, Zhou Man. Finding out Zhou Man is pregnant too, Shen Yuan is deeply shocked and demands an explanation. However, Fu Chi responds with cold indifference, claiming it was just an accident and emotionally manipulating Shen Yuan by telling her that since Zhou Man is pregnant, she should be magnanimous—after all, Shen Yuan can't bear children anymore and is an old woman. In despair and grief, Shen Yuan clings to a final shred of hope recounting their years together. Fu Chi wavers for a moment, but Zhou Man suddenly clutches her belly in pain. Fu Chi immediately rushes to hold Zhou Man and shoves Shen Yuan aside.
