The willful and passionate Princess Chu Yuan of Changling falls in love at first sight with the aloof and ethereal priest Yujingzi. Faced with his constant dodging, the princess willfully pursues him, only to give up in a huff after running into walls time and again. Yet ever since Yujingzi left, Chu Yuan has been haunted by bizarre dreams every night, suffering greatly. It is then that she learns the restrained and observant priest is actually a descendant of the snake god who protects the Sheng State. Past entanglements and misunderstandings are gradually uncovered, and the two resolve the knots in their hearts. Face à ses esquives successives, la princesse le poursuit avec obstination, avant de lâcher prise par dépit après s'être heurtée à un mur à maintes reprises. Mais depuis le départ de Yujingzi, Chu Yuan est hantée chaque nuit par des rêves étranges et subit de grandes souffrances. C'est alors qu'elle apprend que ce prêtre si mesuré et respectueux des règles est en réalité le descendant du dieu serpent qui protège l'État de Sheng. Les enchevêtrements et malentendus du passé se dévoilent couche par couche, et tous deux dénouent les rancoeurs dans leurs cœurs. Chu Yuan abandonne son impatience et apprend le respect et la cherté ; Yujingzi se déleste des entraves divines pour faire face à l'amour terrestre. Franchissant la différence d'espérance de vie entre les humains et les dieux, ils parviennent à une réconciliation mutuelle, veillant l'un sur l'autre et s'accompagnant pour enfin garder ensemble leur patrie et un amour profond au fil des ans.
