Modern corporate slave Shen Linfeng accidentally time-travels to become the profligate heir of the Defender-State Duke's Mansion, binding himself to a profligate system that forces him to spend money right from the start. Mistaking the undercover emperor for a wealthy young master, his poem-writing at the Zuiyue Pavilion almost causes trouble, but instead gets him appointed as an Imperial Censor. Relying on his profligate nature, he talks back to censors and battles the Northern Di, while also being forced to marry Wang Wan'er, the Grand Tutor's daughter, forming a fake married couple. Later, commanded to go on a diplomatic mission to Northern Di, he gets embroiled in the court's secret scheme of the Black Iron Token, maneuvering between the Khan and the Pei family's old guard, and ingeniously defuses the crisis. Having weathered all kinds of storms, Shen Linfeng achieves great merits and is enfeoffed as a different-surnamed prince, finding a happy ending with Wang Wan'er. The emperor has long seen through his origins, yet deeply appreciates his talent.
