Lu Chuan, taken in by Yangmei Village ten years ago, is now a big figure in the fresh produce industry. Anticipating that a once-in-a-decade plum rain would destroy all six hundred acres of Yangmei berries in the village, he returned with five million in cash and a refrigerated truck to repay the kindness, offering a break-even purchase price of 25 yuan per jin, only to be cursed by the whole village as a black-hearted merchant. Internet streamer Xu Weiwei returned home under the slogan of breaking middlemen's exorbitant profits, promising to sell Yangmei for 62 yuan per jin. Blinded by dreams of sudden wealth, the villagers drove Lu Chuan away and shipped the goods packed in ordinary cardboard boxes. Continuous heavy rains fell, Yangmei berries rotted across large areas, express delivery services were suspended across the board, and the black-hearted merchant forced the price down to 8 yuan per jin.
