Born with eyes that can see threads of karma, she enters the Soul Suppressing Bureau to clear the name of her wrongfully executed father. He is the young master of the demon clan lurking in the mortal realm, also investigating the real culprit behind the annihilation of his clan. She is tasked with slaying demons, and he is the first name to be killed in her dossier—yet their threads of karma repeatedly tie back to the very same mastermind. From the wrongful Xueguan case twelve years ago, the serial murders in the demon bazaar, to the reappearance of half-demon puppets in Chang'an, every twist points toward that unseen hand turning clouds and rain deep inside the imperial court. There are wicked demons among demons, and evil men among humans; as they unravel each thread, who is the true mastermind behind it all?
