Bugui Mountain is a forbidden land passed down for generations in the village, rich with terrifying legends of giant snake revenge. To cure his severely ill mother who coughs up blood, young Lin Feng disregards ancestral rules and secretly enters the dangerous Bugui Mountain with his younger sister, Xiao Hong. Along the way, the two encounter multiple crises including wolf packs, wild boars, and hallucination-inducing mind-numbing grass. At the summit, they find a hundred-year-old purple lingzhi mushroom that can save her life, and accidentally discover a massive sloughed snake skin and a mysterious giant snake egg. Eager to save his mother, Lin Feng risks everything to bring the lingzhi and the snake egg back to the village. Since then, strange disasters occur continuously in the village: livestock die bizarrely, stone lions are struck by lightning, and villagers grow strange scales, causing panic to spread throughout the village.
