In Yanhui Town, Li Ying, a woman in red, follows her grandfather's last wish and takes half a swallow-patterned wooden plaque to find their benefactor, Doctor Bai Zhu. Bridge craftsman Jiao Qi sees the plaque but denies everything. With the help of Pei Xuan, registrar of the Qianqiu Pavilion, Li Ying searches old records and follows clues of returned letters, stele rubbings and carving skills to uncover the long-buried past. It turns out Jiao Qi is the carpenter Bai Mu, whose close friend Bai Zhu has long passed away. He hid his name and stayed in town to fulfill his late friend's wish to repair the bridge, imitating his handwriting to reply to letters for ten years and bearing blame alone.
