Jiang Mi hung a lantern inscribed with the character "Wait" at the riddle stage in East Lane of Dengzhou. Pei Jie solved it publicly as "Bamboo Shoots," and the two made a wager: "The solver may ask one favor of the riddle-maker." Since then, Pei Jie has returned every year to solve riddles and mend lanterns, pursuing the missing seventh page of the Dengzhou Riddle Manual and the hidden scroll inside the revolving lantern's ribs. When the Zhao Riddle Workshop framed him with fake riddles and stole the lantern, Jiang Mi counterattacked by hanging a blank lantern before the public. Ultimately, the missing character "Wish" was restored, the blank lantern's answer revealed as "Lantern, Return Home, Write Together," and Pei Jie and Jiang Mi tied red strings together to guard the Jiang Riddle Shop.
