Su'e is a white rat spirit cultivated over a century who can see into the hearts of men. Repaying a debt of salvation, she marries the tofu grinder Zhang Laoshi, aiding him in gaining great wealth while also helping countless others. But when days grow prosperous, hearts change. Gripped by mounting greed, Zhang Laoshi conspires with a mangy monk to shatter Su'e's demonic powers with snake flesh and chicken eggs, forcing her into her true beastly form before the public to be skinned and have her heart gouged out. On the night of the seventh day after her demise, Su'e returns for vengeance—only to discover that everything was not at all what she believed.
