After thirty years running a street stall in Tonghua Alley, cobbler Lu Shouzhuo is notified by operations manager Zheng Ke that he must vacate by the end of the month. Regular customer Aunt Sun brings a petition signed by seventeen households urging him to stay, while young Zhou Xiaoshu visits seven days in a row seeking to apprentice under him. On his final day, Lu Shouzhuo pastes the petition to the wall. Zhou Xiaoshu then leases a new storefront, moves the rattan chair, wooden toolbox, and shoe repair machine inside, and hangs a sign reading 'Lu Shouzhuo Shoe Repair, Apprentice Zhou Xiaoshu'. As Lu Shouzhuo's hands begin to tremble, Zhou Xiaoshu takes over the stitching. With the new stall open, old shoes can still be mended, and the craft lives on.
