Rural midwife Lin Xiushui rescues Zhou Wanrong, the Commandery Princess of Qinghe and formal wife of the Marquis of Yongning, who was framed by her husband and cousin and left abandoned in the wilderness. Lin Xiushui takes her back to her village under low-profile protection. Meanwhile, the Marquis household replaces Zhou Wanrong with a counterfeit wife to deceive everyone. Lin Xiushui righteously rescues the sold maid Lianqiao and assists her journey to the capital to seek help. Princess Huayang, Zhou Wanrong's mother, travels south with an imperial decree to investigate thoroughly, uncovering the conspiracy and punishing the unfaithful Marquis and his conspirators. Later, Lin Xiushui is taken in as an adopted daughter by the Princess, but remains true to her original intention of practicing medicine while forging a lifelong sisterhood with Zhou Wanrong.
