An elderly woman from the countryside comes to the city to live with her son, only to face constant harsh treatment, suspicion, and being made to sleep on the balcony by her daughter-in-law and the son's mother-in-law. While out buying groceries, she risks her life leaping into the river to save someone, yet quietly returns home only to be scolded. The person she saved offers a massive reward to find her. Learning of the bounty, her family pretends to be filial in a greedy bid to claim the money. When the truth is exposed in public, the family's ugly hypocrisy is laid bare. Refusing any financial reward, the mother has the funds donated in her name to build a school. Her son's household is left in disgrace, while she lets go of the past and finds her own peaceful sanctuary.
