Upon receiving news of his grandmother's passing, guqin restorer Lin Yuan returns to his ancestral home, the Village on Strings, to inherit the antique Zhongni-style guqin she left behind. Discovering many antique zithers in the village covered in dust and decaying, he sets out to restore them one by one, replacing silk strings, and even sources paulownia wood left by old carpenters to craft new instruments from scratch. Local youth Song Qinghe steps up to assist, learning fingering techniques and the craft of zither making. While repairing the old instruments and sorting through his grandmother's lifelong manuscripts of musical scores, Lin Yuan gathers the villagers on the grain-drying ground to play, reviving the long-lost melodies of the village. As old and new music intertwines, the once quiet Village on Strings comes alive again, passing down the heritage of ancient guqin craftsmanship through generations of rural soil.
